The corporate world has been blessed with numerous logo designs that have given birth to some of the most famous corporate brands. We have always praised and admired famous corporate logos, but we have never paid much attention to the creators behind such magnificent designs. Who were the logo designers that led to the success of famous corporate brands?
While there are several prominent logo designers in the world, today I have highlighted the life works of 10 most famous of European origin. Witness the outstanding display of work of these majestic logo designers:
1. Alan Fletcher
Alan Gerard Fletcher (1931- 2006) was a well-known British graphic designer. His portfolio of corporate identities includes logo design for Reuters in 1965, “V&A” for Victoria and Albert Museum in 1989 and his “IoD” for the Institute of Directors.
2. Otl Aicher
Otl Aicher (1922 1991) nicknamed Otto, was a prominent German graphic designers of the 20th century. Some of his best works for corporate brands include Lufthansa Airlines in 1969, ERCO in 1974 and the Munich Airport.
3. Raymond Loewy
Raymond Loewy (1893 1986), a French graphic designer, is documented as one of the finest industrial designers of the 20th century. Some of his famous logos include the 1971 Shell, Exxon and old British Petroleum.
4. Ivan Chermayeff
Ivan Chermayeff was born in 1932 in London, England. He is the son of the Chechen architect Serge Ivan Chermayeff. His renowned corporate identities include the famous NBC in 1986 and the Mobil Oil 1964.
5. Miles Newlyn
Miles Newlyn is a British graphic designer who has created some of the most well known corporate logos including Unilever logo and the new Skittles Logo.
6. Walter Landor
Walter Landor (1913-1995) was a graphic designer belonging to Munich, Germany. Some of his well known corporate identities designed are the North West Airlines in 1989.
7. Wally Olins
Wally Olins is acknowledged as a veteran practitioner of corporate identity. Wally was selected for the Prince Philip Designers Prize in 1999 and won the Royal Society of Arts Bicentenary Medal for his diligent efforts in the field of graphic design.
8. Michael Peters:
Michael Peters was born in Luton, UK and has worked for more than 35 years as a graphic designer. Michael Peters designs for supermarket packaging, airline identities, retailers, banks, and charities, are well known. His top corporate logo designs include the 1988 BBC, nabarro and British Airways.
Anton Stankowski was born on 18 June 1906 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Antons most famous corporate logo design was for Deutsche Bank and Munich Re.
10. Brian Tattersfield
Brian Tattersfield was born in Yorkshire UK in 1938 and is the founding partner of Minale Tattersfield.His first impressive venture was the creation of Harrods corporate identity. Other famous logos include the Eurostar logo and the Atlas Blue logo.
